My personal note:  I haven't watched the last 4 episodes of BM but I've been reading comments and glad to read that in the last episode JinAh (MM's character) kicked JiHyuk and said goodbye... wooohoo, that's my girl...  for me, JinAh is such an incredible person and a guy like JiHyuk doesn't deserve her.  ^-^

Congratulations MM, for a superb job in Big Man!!!  There's no denying that your acting stood out in each and every episode.  *hands down*

We can't wait for your movie, "Alice".  December be here already!  kekeke

JSM’s Interview with Allure - Volume May 2014 (w/English Translation)

First of all, I want to give BIG THANKS to our friends in Stand By HyunMin2; especially Mappy-chan and Sunhani-san, for translating this interview into Japanese.  We wouldn't be able to translate this article without their help.  Since the article is from a magazine page, they had to translate it word for word.      ~GF BB~

In Korean drama, a story of chaebol is not uncommon.  However, the topic changes when it comes to a chaebol sibling CD and JSM.  It's just a little thing but they rather have good drama together and built a steadily friendly atmosphere.  Give a good impression than bad.  Just right before the broadcast of their new drama [Big Man], the sibling have transformed into 1960's Look.

Big Man's KJA is the only daughter of chaebol family.  You debuted in similar role as Bad Guy's HMN.  Do you have any worries?

There are no worries at all.  Incidentally, both of them have similar background but their characters are completely different.  HMN has a blooming flower character which is pure with protective childhood.  KJA is 'happy go lucky' and knows all the dark side surrounding her.  She is apparently selfish and self-centered person.

It's a very fascinating character!
When I watch other works, I just think 'Ahh, I want to do that role', that's it.  While I enjoy the work, I also observe the audience reactions.  When an actor is in character, the most important is to suit the role best.  By the way, I would like to try a different role from the past.

What kind of role?

In the movie, 'About Time', Lydia Wilson did the role of a sister.  She's always angry but inside has a good heart and she loves her family.  In some aspect, she has some insecurities--she's not happy when she's alone.  KJA's character is somewhat similar to her.

I want to know what kind of daughter you are to your family?

I'm the only daughter so I have a high sense of responsibility.  I also thought that I should be responsible for my family when I was growing up and because of that I became defiant and kept my distance from them.

Was the changed from Dance performance major due to your defiance?
It happened all too quickly.  As soon as school finished, I always come home immediately.  To protect everyone, I must be protected.  So in my mind then I want to live in a character I long for.
You entered 'Korea National University of Arts' as top student.  You must be fed up with that label.  In fact, I want to know what kind of student you are?

When compared with other school, we have open relationship between Junior and senior.  Our school is located in remote area of Seoul.  I have to transfer 3 times by subway and bus.  The transit is very crowded especially when we have to attend a morning class.  Can't give definition for it, can you?

After you debuted, didn't your school life become awkward?

I thought I was being an inconvenience, those who against rather increased.  There are more junior entered the school so I said to them 'You! Let’s get along this way'.  By the way, with this consideration I feel more comfortable.  They are also cute, when these friendly people remain in school, I like to work on a project with them.

You have prepared steadily with your great effort in school.

In that way, I can really learn how to act.  I feel nervous when I'm not working.  It's all so sudden, will I be able to complete it.  Now, I seem to have many gaps to fill.

What part do you want to fill in?

From start I like acting, I want to be professional now.

It's not a job that works alone so to be good at it, we must continue to study... apart from what you have learned in school and done many acting classes.

Recently many actors with same age around mid-20s took an important role, how do you feel?

It's especially true for male actors.  I think a gradual generation change is inspiring.  Same age actor can play an important part and create a ground for us, I feel very thankful.

You debuted in "Bad Guy" and receive a lot of attention.  Then you appeared with Hallyu star KHJ in "PK" and become well-known in overseas.  You kept work steadily in big project, don't you have any reservations?  And if you hear this words don’t you feel bad?

It’s true that I have good luck however I also have reservations.  An appropriate failure of not giving enough support.  An appropriate setback is a suitable word.
What was your setback?

I feel frustrated when I have to limit myself.  I'm talking about PK and Standby -- both roles have strong character of sweet candy and cry baby.  I didn't feel confidence in acting them out but I did.

You were in marriage crisis in "CWGM" as HY and acted as HJ in "You Came to me to Become the Star".

It's a character that many sympathizes with me.  But in fact HY was a difficult role for me. After watching I think I could match with the role.  By the way the writer of ‘You came to me’ thinks ironically, I did not get salary in the drama and living in Social Service house.

For HY due to family problem she hesitates to marry.  HJ left her lover for her hometown after realized his economic situation.  In real life, can you imagine parting with your lover if you're in the same situation?

I don't think I will.  However, for people who live in the same situation can make their own decision.

In your YT video, many fans from overseas have left comments that you are natural and down to earth that was impressive and give advantage.  However, as an actress to engrave too much impressive image don’t you feel awkward?

No, It would be nice if you can have different looks.  However if you are not good at acting when you play a character you still remain yourself.

After all, aren't you afraid of not being remembered as actress JSM?

That's right, that's why I'm not going away and will present my next piece of work.

“Big Man” Producer Explains Why There Are So Many Dramas About Chaebols

Producer Jung Hae Ryong explained why he thinks there are so many dramas about chaebols (the top tier of Korean society) during a press conference for his new KBS drama, “Big Man.”
During the press conference, held on April 28, Jung said that the targeting of chaebol and the recurring criticism of the economic class system shown in recent dramas reflect the current mindset of the working class.

Producer Jung expressed that the working class is constantly “waiting for new developments and questioning whether the current situation is the best,” and that there are more dramas being released that are trying to cater to such sentiment.

He also talked about how the genre of chaebol drama has started to pay more attention to details, with dramas not just telling a story of a prince falling in love, but focusing on portraying a realistic development of events instead.

“Big Man” tells a story of Kang Ji Hyuk (Kang Ji Hwan) who is suddenly thrown into the chaebol world as he becomes the heir to a giant conglomerate. It premiered on April 28.
