I wouldn't say that it wasn't serious. I think MM wanted to take her time or take it slow... she did say in an interview that she was afraid to get hurt and that could be the reason why she focused on studies.
Maybe after PK MM was still having doubts if having a serious relationship with HJ is the right thing to do for her and her career. Having a celebrity as a boyfriend is not easy and you cannot date openly... In February probably they talked things out and made it official....

I just listened to the song again whilst looking at the lyrics here...and I'm tearing OMG! It seems like the attraction was one-sided (initially I think)...The girl was probably not realising that this poor guy was truly deeply in love with her - she's always thinking it's a joke or just laughing things off.... Awwwwww I feel for him... :(
I'm not sure with this but If you watch the PK BTS 12th episode... he looked sad and he was staring at MM... I'm used to him and her laughing but this episode he looked distant and dry.... Maybe he was just tired?
